What Is a Trunk Show? Your Guide to Bridal's Best-Kept Secret

If you have started browsing Milwaukee bridal boutiques and keep seeing the words "trunk show" pop up in our emails and on our Instagram, you’re not alone if you’re wondering what that actually means. It’s one of those terms that gets thrown around in the bridal industry like everyone should already know what it means. So let's pump the breaks and talk about it, because once you understand what a trunk show really is, you will want to build your entire dress shopping timeline around one.

What Is a Bridal Trunk Show, Exactly?
A trunk show is a limited-time event where a wedding dress designer sends their full new collection, including gowns that are not part of a boutique's regular inventory, directly to a store for a few days only. Often, a representative from the design house travels with the collection to be there in person to answer questions about these brand new dresses.
That means for one weekend, our racks are filled with dresses you cannot try on any other time of year. It is the designer's way of launching their newest collection out into the bridal fashion world for real brides to fall in love with them.
Why Trunk Shows Feel Different
An appointment during a trunk show will often highlight one designer's vision, and there is something special about that kind of immersion. You get:
First access to new arrivals. Trunk show gowns often arrive before they hit our regular collection, so you are trying on styles before most brides even know they exist.
Expanded size and style options. Because the designer sends extra samples specifically for the event, you may have access to more sizes, more silhouettes, or gowns we would not normally have in-house.
Expert insight from the source. When a designer representative is present, you get to ask questions straight from the people who understand the construction, fabrication, and inspiration behind every gown.
Trunk show pricing. Many designers offer a special incentive during their trunk show weekend, whether that is a discount, a bonus accessory, or priority on a rush order. It will not last past the weekend, which is exactly the point.
What Actually Happens During Your Appointment
If you have booked an appointment during a trunk show with us, here is what to expect. You will meet with your stylist just like any other visit, except your options are curated around that weekend's featured designer. Your stylist will pull recommendations based on what you love and what fits your vision, then bring in pieces from the trunk show collection you might not have thought to ask for. We’ll of course be bringing in pieces from our core collection as well but we want you to see as many trunk show gowns as possible since they will only be here for a limited time.
Because these events draw a lot of interest, trunk show appointments fill quickly. If a designer's aesthetic speaks to you, that is your sign to book early.
Is a Trunk Show Right for You?
If you already have a designer in mind, a trunk show is your chance to see their newest work in person before anyone else in Milwaukee does. If you are still narrowing things down, a trunk show is a great way to see a lot of very unique gowns all at once - that being said, don’t be surprised if you fall in love with one of them. Either way, the energy in the boutique during a trunk show weekend is unlike any other appointment we host. There is an unmistakable buzz that comes from knowing these dresses will not all be here next week.
